With its programming: Cinearte Garbo, brings us next Monday, February 25, starting at 07:00 p.m. the french film “THE 400 BLOWS” (Les quatre cents coups), co-written and directed by François Truffaut.
In this 1959 film, the director’s first feature film, Antoine Doniel (Jean-Pierre Léaud), aged 14, returns every day to an unhappy home while witnessing his parents’ marital problems. A life full of deprivation and harsh demands will entangle him in a spiral of lies and thefts. This film also has many references to director’s personal life.
Our director of occasion, François Truffaut, 1932-1984, is a filmmaker of french origin who was one of the initiators of movement La Nouvelle vague (New Wave), in which the film we will project is inserted, and at late 50’s proposed freedom of expression and technical freedom in production films, against structures of french cinema at the time. One of hallmarks of this director is his concern for childhood and helpless ones. In his career are many cinematographic adaptations of police novels and original scripts, among which “La noche americana” (La nuit américaine), a tribute to cinema award-winner of Academy Awards in 1973 for Best Non-English Language Film. However, this artist was also an actor in several of his films and a well-known writer, including the interview book “Hitchcock’s cinema”.
