On Tuesday, January 21, at 7:00 pm in the Sala Garbo we invite you to enjoy the “Charles Chaplin Festival”, where the most emblematic films of the english actor, humorist, composer, producer, screenwriter, director, writer and editor will be shown.
“Chaplin” became very popular in silent films thanks to the many films he made with his character Charlot.
For this occasion, the film “Modern Times” (1936), also silent, will be screened, it is the first time that the audience can hear Chaplin’s voice. It is a reflection of the desperate conditions of which an employee of the working class was a victim at the time of the Great Depression, in the vision given by the film, for the efficiency of industrialization and chain production.
Paulette Goddard, Henry Bergman, Stanley Sandford and Chester Conklin also participate in the film. Modern Times shows futuristic scenes of the factory in which Charlot works that could have an influence on the film by Fritz Lang Metropolis and the famous Mechanophobia illustration by John Vassos, which appeared in 1931.
