Escuela de Artes Musicales (EAM) from Costa Rica University is pleased to invite you to the opera “Pagliacci” on Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24, from 8:00 p.m., at Melico Salazar Popular Theater.

Pagliacci (Clowns) is a drama in one prologue and two acts with music and libretto by Ruggero Leoncavallo (Naples, 1857 – Montecatini Terme, 1919). The play recounts the tragedy of a jealous husband and his wife, in a theatrical company of the art comedy. Action is located in Montalto di Calabria (Italy) on August 15 afternoon, around years 1865-1870.

Cast for this presentation is composed by tenor Ernesto Rodríguez (Canio / Pagliaccio), soprano Ivette Ortiz-Davenport (Nedda / Colombina), baritone Andrew Suckey (Tonio / Taddeo), tenor José Daniel Hernández (Beppe / Harlequin) and baritone Kevin Rodríguez (Silvio). Also participating are UCR Symphony Orchestra, students and professors of the Singing Chair, as well as choir of EAM, University Chorus and National Institute of Music Children’s Choir, under Musical Direction of Alejandro Gutiérrez and Scenic Direction of Massimo Pezzutti.
